Britney Spears probably wouldn’t be in such straits if she had Beverly Rose Hopper and Terry Reilly looking after her.
The pair have “adopted” San Jose’s neglected Municipal Rose Garden to help get it out of trouble with a national rose garden accrediting organization.
“It’s a little scary adopting a park that has been on probation for three years, but we see this as an ‘intervention,’ ” Reilly said. “We’re sending the garden into rehab.”
Reilly predicts that between volunteers and city workers, they should have the rose garden off probation within a year.
The first event of 2008 for the Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden is a volunteer pruning day Saturday at 9 a.m. (rain will push it to Jan. 19). Details and a video pruning tutorial are at www.friendssjrosegarden.org.
